Goodtime Games

Goodtime Games is a brand new board games café on Burton Road, West Didsbury (Manchester). We’ve created a cosy, chilled-out space where groups of all ages can gather to play our huge selection of board games and enjoy tasty vegetarian/vegan snacks and light-bites alongside locally-roasted coffee.

The “Real Living Wage” Update

As pledged in our Kickstarter, we’re now an accredited “real living wage” employer!

Board games are always great fun- but so many of our guests positive experiences are carefully-curated by our wonderful staff. Their tireless enthusiasm and hard-work has helped establish us as an awesome place to visit, despite us still being in our infancy!

Our collective goal for this year is to go above and beyond our Kickstarter goals and establish ourselves as a shining beacon of fun and positivity on Burton Road. Despite the challenges surrounding the pandemic (and particularly local lockdown rules) we’ve managed to gather some real momentum, and can now proudly boast that we have over 200 members.

A huge part of our success can (and should!) be attributed to our amazing casual workers who’ve kept Melissa and I sane throughout it all. To that end, we’re investing in our staff’s well-being by bringing our them onto the “real living wage” rate. In time, we hope to bring them on-board as “permanent” employees (however, that’s for another update.)

Massive thanks to all of our members, backers and supporters who’ve made all of this possible.

We’re accredited!

Now closed on Mondays, & open on Wednesdays

Hi all, thanks for a great weekend and for all the lovely reviews that were left for us! We hope you all had lots of fun. :-) We're changing our opening times slightly from tomorrow. So we're not opening on Mondays anymore for the time being, but will be opening on Wednesdays instead. We're also opening half an hour later than we were doing too, so 11am - 9:30pm in the week and closing at 10pm on Fri/Sat/Sun. We're also continuing with the slightly earlier start on weekends (10:30am). The website and booking system has been updated to reflect our new opening hours so you can get your table reserved if you're planning on visiting next week. :-) See you soon! - Tom, Melissa & Team

COVID-Update & Safety Measures

Hi everyone! Just a quick COVID-19 update/reminder, you'll need a mask to visit us if you're not planning on eating/drinking. This also applies if you're just nipping in for takeaway food and drink. We have some disposable masks available to buy (at cost) for those only wishing to play games / who've forgotten theirs at home and would like one. We're still recommending that you wear one whilst you're playing games, particularly if you're visiting at busier times. Due to the local lockdown measures currently in place in Manchester, it's one household per table. Please adhere to these rules so that we can (hopefully) have them relaxed again soon! All the best, Tom x (Feed generated with FetchRSS)

Visitor Info & July Update

It’s been a busy two weeks!

We’re so glad that lots of you have come out to check out the café despite the pandemic still raging on around the world. Your support really means the world us. Special thanks to the good folks who have even donated a few additional games for our shelves (and for future events/prizes).

We’ve been working hard, problem solving and generally getting the café to run smoother day by day. Our new staff are both amazing, proactive and brilliant with customers – we’ve plenty to learn from them!

Our tasty food!

Not pictured: delicious nachos.

We’ve decided that we need a little less ambiguity about what we expect from our visitors and our pricing concerning collectable card games and D&D nights (when it’s safe to host them, we will!) So we’ve put together these policies for those two areas, and also for children / parents.

Our Kickstarter is about to pay out, which means we’ll have the opportunity to purchase a few extra bits and bobs for the café including a bit more shelving and more games.

We’re also looking into the “Eat Out to Help Out” scheme (as silly as the name is…) as it might be somewhat helpful in promoting our delicious food and drink.

Our booking system is getting tweaked/improved regularly to ensure that we’re getting folks onto the right tables and we highly recommend using it to ensure that we’re properly staffed and can give you guys the best possible service!

See you soon!

We (were) Hiring!

Now that we’re approaching 90% on our Kickstarter (8 days to go!) We’re starting our hiring process. Applications will close on the 5th July, so please try and get yours in on time to make sure you’re considered.

We want to hear from friendly and reliable folks who are keen to be part of something new and exciting. This is a flexible/casual role that we plan on developing into a permanent position in the not-too-distant future.

Job Details:
Pay: £Min. Wage (Paid monthly by PAYE)
Estimated Hours: 25
Working Week: Monday, Tuesday and alternate Thursdays and Fridays / Weekends.

We’re looking for someone to join our little team who can communicate well and who shares our passion for creating an awesome board-gaming experience. If that sounds like you, and you’ve got some relevant experience in a small kitchen/café/coffee shop (and happen to enjoy board games!) We’d like to hear from you!

The role is mainly focused on assisting with the day-to-day running of the café. This will involve taking bookings and orders, preparing vegetarian/vegan food and drink, serving tables and pitching in with cleaning and auditing. Because we’re a small start-up, we can offer the right person a great opportunity to get involved in several areas of the business and develop some new skills. Specifically, there will be some opportunities to get involved in event planning and social media marketing.

Interviews will be arranged upon reaching our goal, but in the meantime you can apply for the role of café assistant by emailing a CV to Tom Walker at: info@goodtimegames.co.uk

Please note – This is a casual role that we hope to expand to a permanent position in due course. As soon as we can pay a living wage – we will.

The dancey-cut of our progress (so far!)

We know we're a little behind... unfortunately the pandemic has made getting building materials especially difficult. Everyone's gone DIY crazy which has, in turn, slowed us down a bit.

Fortunately - in the grand scheme of things that doesn't matter too much. We're just happy to be safe and healthy (and making slow and steady progress to boot!)

We'll see you on the other side of this! <3

How did you do?? ????

We made a thing!

We just wanted to show off our first table! Constructed using 50% power of friendship and 50% scaffolding boards, we hope they'll play a big part in creating the warm and homey vibes that we're aiming for!

Temporarily closed until further notice... see you on the other side of lockdown!
