Settle, build, and trade your way to glory in our biggest tournament of the year! This year we’ve teamed up with Colonist.io to take things to the next level.
For the first time ever, our local champion won’t just take home bragging rights and a sweet cash prize, they’ll also qualify for the Colonist World Championship, joining the global stage of elite Catan players.
Whether you’re a seasoned strategist or just love rolling dice and trading sheep for brick, this is your chance to test your skills against the best in Manchester. Expect two thrilling preliminary rounds, a high-stakes final, and plenty of fun in between.
Come for the competition, stay for the community, and (just maybe…) walk away one step closer to becoming a world champion!
Tournament Rules
Structure
Players: 16–20 entrants.
Rounds: 2 Preliminary Rounds – players rotate so no one faces the same opponent twice.
1 Grand Final Game
Tables: 4–5 tables of (ideally) 4 players each
Scoring System
Each player’s game score = total victory points on their board at game end.
Preliminary ranking = sum of both game scores.
Finalists = top 4 ranked players.
Tie-breakers (in order):
Most wins (1st-place finishes).
Biggest margin of victory (difference between 1st and 2nd place in any game).

Gameplay Rules
Base Catan only (no expansions).
Build & trade on your turn in any order you like.
Robber is semi-friendly: for each player’s first 2 dice rolls, if a 7 is rolled, it is re-rolled once.
Standard Colonist tournament etiquette applies:
– No collusion, kingmaking, or intentional stalling.
– Trades must be fair offers (no gifting).
All other rules of official Catan base game observed.
Prizes
The café is putting up a £50 cash prize for the overall winner of this qualifying tournament.
They will also receive 1 month of elite colonist.io membership and have qualified for the Colonist Championship 2025 tournament, this will be played online and if they can’t attend, the spot will go to the runner up. Anyone who makes the final round will also receive a month of premium colonist.io membership.
